Creative direction
Three rooms — Idea, Form, Realm — moving from the book's cosmology to its creatures to an immersive terrain.
Works & objects
A 340 m² sand table with close to ten thousand sculptures; the eight-metre Shanhai Map under programmed light; interactive projection.
Material & making
Hand-built ceramic figures, scanned and multiplied; painted terrain; a light cycle revealing the map's hidden world.
Technical challenge
Scale and legibility: thousands of small forms had to read as one landscape from the edge of the room and as individual creatures at arm's length.
Delivery / installation
Installed by the atelier team; maintained through the exhibition run.
Result
The atelier's scale proof: a cultural world made physical, walked by the public.
